Application process

There are four methods students may use when applying for financial aid. Students need to complete only ONE application processing method.

  1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  2. Online FAFSA application
  3. FAFSA renewal
  4. Online FAFSA renewal
  1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Students may complete the FAFSA paper application.

    • The application may be picked up from the campus financial aid offices or local high school guidance counselors.
    • Once the application is completed, it should be mailed to the Central Processing Center. An envelope is enclosed in the FAFSA instructions pamphlet.
    • Within four to six weeks, students should receive a response document, referred to as the Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR consists of three to five pages.
    • PHCC’s school code is 010652
    • Applicants should contact the nearest PHCC financial aid office once the Student Aid Report is received.
  2. Online FAFSA application

All students may apply for financial aid at the FAFSA website from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). The processing time generally is one to two weeks faster than with the paper FAFSA application.

    • Upon completing the application on the Internet, students and parents may sign with their PIN numbers. If not, students must print the signature page, affix the appropriate signatures, and mail to the Central Processing Center. Upon receipt of the signature page, the Central Processing Center will perform the calculation to determine the student’s financial aid eligibility.
    • Students must be sure to enter their correct Social Security number.
    • Within three to four weeks, students should receive a response document, referred to as the Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR consists of three to five pages.
    • PHCC’s school code is 010652
    • Applicants should contact the nearest PHCC financial aid office once the Student Aid Report is received.
  3. FAFSA renewal

If the student applied for federal student aid during the 2004 - 2005 school year prior to September 24, 2004, the student will receive a Renewal FAFSA paper application.

    • The renewal FAFSA is scheduled for mailing between November 23, 2004 and January 9, 2005. The renewal applications will be sent to the student’s address as listed on the 2004 - 2005 FAFSA application.
    • Approximately 75% of the Renewal Application is preprinted and may be the same as reported on the 2004 - 2005 FAFSA. The student needs only to complete the 2004 income and asset questions, and update any other changes to the preprinted areas.
    • Students should contact the nearest PHCC financial aid office once the Student Aid Report is received.
  4. Online FAFSA renewal

Students who receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the DOE may complete their Renewal FAFSA online. The paper Renewal FAFSA will not be mailed if the student received a PIN number.

    • PINs will remain the same from year to year; therefore, students who request and receive a PIN number to access their 2004 - 2005 Renewal FAFSA on the web can use the same PIN to access their 2005 - 2006 Renewal FAFSA on the web. Web filing is free and secure and the processing time generally is one to two weeks faster than with the paper application.
    • Students must be sure to enter their correct Social Security number.
    • The PIN number serves as an electronic signature. If you are required to submit your parent(s)’s information, your PIN number can not serve as your parent’s signature; your parents will need to apply for their own PIN number.
    • Within three to four weeks, students should receive a response document, referred to as the Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR consists of three to five pages.
    • Students should contact the nearest PHCC financial aid office once the Student Aid Report is received.
