E-learning

E-learning studentE-learning courses are no different than traditional courses in terms of rigor and content. They do offer a substantial degree of scheduling flexibility to the student. Students can pursue their education from their home or other off-campus location.

There are several ways to take advantage of e-learning at PHCC. Check the course schedule for offerings.

  • Credit
    • Internet or online courses
    • Blended (face to face meeting course that utilizes myPHCC or other forms of technology for some instruction)
    • Hybrid courses (combination of face to face and online)
  • Noncredit
    • Internet or online courses

Technology requirements vary depending on the type of course you are taking. The requirements for each course type are outlined below. Although you may find that some courses do not specify a particular type of technology many courses (regardless of the delivery method) now include a web-based component to enhance instruction.

Minimum hardware specifications

  • Pentium IV with a one gigahertz processor and 256 megabytes of RAM

  • G4 or higher with 256 megabytes of RAM

Recommended hardware specifications

  • Pentium IV with a two gigahertz processor and 512 megabytes of RAM

  • G5 or higher with 512 megabytes of RAM

Minimum operating system requirements

Windows PC
  • Windows XP or higher
  Apple Macintosh
  • OS X or higher

Internet connection requirements

For both Windows PC and Apple Macintosh
  • Cable Internet (preferred)
  • DSL (preferred)
  • Dial-up (minimum)

NOTE: Some course features, such as video segments may load slowly or incompletely when a dial-up connection is used. Additionally, some courses may require a cable connection for certain assignments. Check the course description and course information for specific requirements before you enroll.

PHCC e-mail

All PHCC students will have internal college e-mail through myPHCC. To login follow the instructions on the login page. Once logged in, you can:

  • See if you have received any college or course e-mail by viewing the "new mail" window located at the top of the page
  • Click on any received e-mail link to read your mail
  • Send an e-mail by clicking on the PHCC e-mail group found on your myPHCC homepage

Instructions for Internet and enhanced/blended classes

On the first day of class:

  • Open your Internet browser
  • Go to PHCC’s website, PHCC.edu
  • Click on the myPHCC icon on the left side of each page
  • Follow the login instructions on that page
