Dental Assisting—Technical Certificate
Dentists rely on dental assistants for most dental procedures. Dental assistants prepare instruments for procedures, make casts of clients' mouths, take X-rays and ready materials for dental restorations and other treatments. Keeping patients calm during routine or difficult procedures is an essential aspect of this profession.
Dentists need assistants who are reliable and demonstrate manual dexterity. Dental assistants must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to comfort patients.
To prepare students for employment as dental assistants and dental auxiliaries. The program meets all competencies required by the Florida Department of Education for dental assistants. Graduates of this program may apply to take the Certified Dental Assistant Examination given by the Dental Assisting National Board. Graduates are eligible for employment as dental assistants with expanded functions and radiography skills.
This is a three semester program.
Dental assisting courses are offered on the West Campus in New Port Richey.
This certificate program contains both academic and clinical components as part of the curriculum. Students must attend classes Monday through Friday during the day.
