PHCC is a member of the Florida Community College Activities Association and the Suncoast Conference. The baseball program started in 1992. In just the third year of the program, PHCC finished runner-up in the 1994 FCCAA state tournament.
In 1995, PHCC won the Suncoast Conference and made their second appearance in the state tournament. Their last appearance in the tournament was in 1997. Over 20 players have signed professional contracts and many have gone on to top universities throughout the country.

Florida Collegiate Umpires voted to select the team that best exemplified sportsmanship in each conference they serve and PHCC was selected in the Suncoast Conference. Umpires were asked to consider the behavior of the players, coaches, fans and game management personnel.

FCCAA Second Team All-State selection Andrew Spleth will be signing a baseball scholarship with the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He joins Travis Murray, who signed with Palm Beach Atlantic last month.

PHCC Baseball will hold an open tryout for unsigned seniors on Saturday, June 12 at the West Campus in New Port Richey. Pitchers and catchers should report at 8:30 a.m. Infielders and outfielders at 10:30 a.m.
The pro-style workout will include the following: run 60s, infield-outfield from positions and batting practice. Pitchers will throw in the bullpens.
All players must bring a copy of a recently completed physical (within the past year) and all of the essential equipment (i.e, cleats, glove) needed to participate. Catchers must bring their own equipment.

Sophomore Andrew Spleth of Indianapolis, Ind. added another honor to his resume this week as he was selected to the FCCAA All-State Second Team.

Five members of the 2010 baseball team were selected All-Suncoast Conference players. First-team selections were Andrew Spleth (1B), Travis Murray (RHP) and Matt Hart (3B). Spleth batted a team leading .413 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 37 RBIs. Murray was selected as pitcher after posting a 4-1 record and 2.75 earned run average. Hart batted .386 with 14 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs and 38 RBIs. Selected to the second team were Lyndon Coleman (OF), Doug Burlett (C) and Travis Murray (C). Coleman batted .353 with 12 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 28 RBIs. Burlett batted .318 with four doubles, one home run and 19 RBIs. Murray batted .366 with 10 doubles, two triples, one home run and 27 RBIs. Murray has also signed with Palm Beach Atlantic University for next season.

The 2010 baseball season came to a close as PHCC was eliminated in the Suncoast Conference tournament by St. Petersburg 8-4 last Friday. PHCC finished the season 16-22-1 and 12-13 in the Suncoast Conference.

St. Petersburg College held on to beat Pasco-Hernando 11-10 in Clearwater on Thursday night in game one of the best of three series. Matt Hart led the hitters going four for five with a double and home run. It was Hart’s team leading 14th home run of the season. Doug Burlett also went three for five with a double. Brad Sabourin (1-1) took the loss on the mound. Two team teams will meet today on the West Campus at 3 p.m.

PHCC eliminated Polk State College 11-10 in Winter Haven on Wednesday night in the Suncoast Conference tournament. Matt Hart hit a two-run homer in the top of the 12th inning and Dylan Hale (4-4) pitched the final 2.2 innings to pick up the win. The win advanced PHCC into a best of three series against St. Petersburg College. Game one will be tonight in Clearwater at 6 p.m., game two in New Port Richey at 3 p.m. and game three back in Clearwater on Saturday at 6 p.m., if necessary. The winner of the series advances to the FCCAA State Baseball tournament in Lakeland.

PHCC’s Andrew Spleth is this week’s FCCAA Baseball Player of the Week. Spleth, a sophomore from Indianapolis, Ind., batted .571 (10-for-16) with one home run and six RBIs during a four-game stretch in Suncoast Conference play. Spleth had at least two hits in each game, including three-hit outings in wins against State College of Florida (April 7) and Hillsborough (April 10). In the win over SCF, Spleth was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI and scored a run. He matched the 3-for-4 effort in the win over Hillsborough, which included two doubles, a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. In the process, Spleth extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Travis Murray improved to 4-1 on the mound by pitching seven strong innings on Monday afternoon in Tampa. He allowed eight hits and one run while striking out four. Brad Sabourin, Ryan Reedy, and Jordan Huchro came in to record outs in the 9th inning with the tying run on second base. Huchro recorded his first save of the season. Matt Hart went 4-for-4 with two home runs (10,11) and three RBIs. Lyndon Coleman, Doug Burlett and Travis Murray each had two hits in the game.
The team’s magic number to reach the Suncoast Conference tournament is now one, with four games to play. The team will host Polk State College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

In one of the craziest games of the season, PHCC rallied to beat South Florida Community College 15-12 in New Port Richey on Saturday. Matt Hart hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 11th for the win. It was Hart’s team leading ninth home run of the season.
South Florida rallied from a 8-2 deficit to take a 9-8 lead before PHCC tied it up in the bottom of the eighth. South Florida retook a 11-9 lead into the 10th inning before PHCC tied the game on a 2 out balk. In the top of the 11th, SFCC scored again to lead 12-11. PHCC loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th with no outs before Hart hit the home run. Brad Sabourin (1-0) picked up the win in relief.
Andrew Spleth (4-for-6), Zander Devlin (4-for-5), Travis Murray (3-for-5) and Matt Hart (3-for-6) led the hitters. For the game, the two teams combined for 27 runs, 43 hits, 4 errors, 16 walks, 7 hit batters and 2 balks.

PHCC lost 2-1 to South Florida Community College on Monday at the west campus. Jordan Huchro (0-2) took the loss in relief. Lyndon Coleman improved his batting average to .431 after going 3-for-5 at the plate. The team will host State College of Florida on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Pasco-Hernando hit three home runs in today’s 9-3 win at Central Florida. Andrew Spleth (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Ryan Reedy. Lyndon Coleman went 4-for-5 with a home run and 4 RBIs to lead the hitters. Andrew Spleth went 2-for-5 with a home run and Grant Gajdosz hit his fourth home run of the season. The team will travel to Clearwater Christian on Tuesday for 6 p.m. game.

The baseball team split a doubleheader in Jacksonville on Sunday winning the first game 7-2 and losing game two 7-2. Dylan Hale (1-1) picked up the win in game one. Grant Gajdosz and Alex Del Monte hit home runs in the game. The team will host Santa Fe College on Friday at 3 p.m.

The baseball team lost 8-1 to Central Florida Community College on Monday. Dylan Hale (0-1) took the loss on the mound. Matt Hart hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning for the teams only run. PHCC will host Gulf Coast Community College Friday at 3 p.m. Andrew Spleth is the scheduled starter.

Friday’s home game against Lake Sumter Community College was been rained out and is rescheduled for Wednesday, February 24 at 1 p. m, at the West Campus.

The baseball team lost 8-5 at Lake Sumter Community College on Wednesday. PHCC rallied from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game 5-5 in the fifth inning, but the Lakers scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. Jordan Huchro (0-1) took the loss in relief. Shortstop Chris Velez lead all hitters going 2 for 4 with a home run and three runs batted in.

PHCC opened the 2010 baseball season on Friday by tying Florida State College of Jacksonville 11-11. The game was called after nine innings because of darkness. Alex Del Monte (3-for-5), Travis Murray (3-for-6 with two RBI) and Matt Hart (3-for-6 and two RBI) helped lead a 17-hit attack. Lyndon Coleman (2-for-5 with two RBI) and Andrew Spleth (2-for-4 with three RBI) each hit home runs.
Saturday’s game against Florida State College of Jacksonville was rained out in the top of the 5th inning with the score 2-2. The doubleheader will not be made up. The team will travel to Lake Sumter on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game. Matt Fuglesang will get the start.

The baseball team will open the 2010 season tomorrow when they host Florida State College of Jacksonville in a three game series. Matt Fuglesang will get the start on the mound at 3 p.m. The two teams will play a Saturday doubleheader beginning at noon. Dylan Hale will start game one and Andrew Spleth game two.
