PHCC is a member of the Florida Community College Activities Association and the Suncoast Conference. The baseball program started in 1992. In just the third year of the program, PHCC finished runner-up in the 1994 FCCAA state tournament.

In 1995, PHCC won the Suncoast Conference and made their second appearance in the state tournament. Their last appearance in the tournament was in 1997. Over 20 players have signed professional contracts and many have gone on to top universities throughout the country.

Friday’s home game against Lake Sumter Community College was been rained out and is rescheduled for Wednesday, February 24 at 1 p. m, at the West Campus.

The baseball team lost 8-5 at Lake Sumter Community College on Wednesday. PHCC rallied from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game 5-5 in the fifth inning, but the Lakers scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. Jordan Huchro (0-1) took the loss in relief. Shortstop Chris Velez lead all hitters going 2 for 4 with a home run and three runs batted in.

PHCC opened the 2010 baseball season on Friday by tying Florida State College of Jacksonville 11-11. The game was called after nine innings because of darkness. Alex Del Monte (3 for 5), Travis Murray (3 for 6 w/2B/2 rbi) and Matt Hart (3 for 6/ 2 rbi) helped lead a 17-hit attack. Lyndon Coleman (2 for 5 with 2 rbi) and Andrew Spleth (2 for 4 with 3 rbi) each hit home runs.

Saturday’s game against Florida State College of Jacksonville was rained out in the top of the 5th inning with the score 2-2. The doubleheader will not be made up. The team will travel to Lake Sumter on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game. Matt Fuglesang will get the start.

The baseball team will open the 2010 season tomorrow when they host Florida State College of Jacksonville in a three game series. Matt Fuglesang will get the start on the mound at 3 p.m. The two teams will play a Saturday doubleheader beginning at noon. Dylan Hale will start game one and Andrew Spleth game two.
