Paralegal

Paralegal student

If you possess an appreciation for the laws that govern our society, you may be suited for a career as a legal assistant. As a legal assistant or paralegal, you'll perform many duties historically handled by attorneys including legal research, investigating facts, conducting interviews, drafting legal documents, and helping attorneys prepare cases. You'll also maintain and organize information that is relevant to your assigned cases and provide assistance at depositions, hearings, mediations and trails.

Successful paralegals must be computer savvy, as the use of technology in legal research and for litigation support becomes increasingly important. An eye for details, strong organizational skills, and a courteous manner in dealing with the public are necessary attributes in this field. In addition, legal assistants enjoy learning about the law and staying informed about new developments that affect their area of practice.
