Teacher trainingDo you have a bachelor’s degree? If you do, you can enroll in the Educator Preparation Institute at Pasco-Hernando Community College and be certified to teach in as little as seven months without quitting your day job. If you’ve ever considered becoming a teacher, there has never been a more opportune time, due to an unprecedented demand for certified educators in the state and throughout the country. The EPI at PHCC provides people like you – people with bachelor’s degrees from regionally-accredited institutions – with the opportunity to become certified teachers – without the obstacles of excessive time, major expense and professional disruptions that typically prevent people from making a dramatic career change. By enrolling at the EPI, you’ll gain a solid foundation in classroom management, pedagogy and instructional strategies that will enable you to enter the classroom with the skills and confidence you need to be a successful teacher.

Earn your teaching certificate in as little as seven months

The EPI program consists of seven courses spread over a seven month period. Each 40 hour course is completed in five to six weeks. Courses are designed to prepare participants for various aspects of teaching.

This is the ideal program for working adults. You will attend classes two nights a week, allowing you to complete the program while remaining gainfully employed.

Learn how to teach from the experts

Instructors are experienced classroom teachers, assistant principals, principals, former administrators, and curriculum directors. They know the important aspects of teaching and learning and know how to make these courses interesting and valuable for the beginning teacher.

PHCC offers affordable tuition

The tuition for the 21 credit hour program is less than $1,500.

Selection process

  • Students should contact the coordinator for the Educator Preparation Institute at Pasco-Hernando Community College for program information and an application packet. Call the EPI coordinator at 727-816-3714.
  • Applicants must provide the EPI coordinator with a current status of eligibility letter from the Florida Department of Education verifying the student’s eligibility to teach in the state of Florida, prior to acceptance into the program.
  • Admittance into the program is contingent upon receiving a status of eligibility letter from the Florida Department of Education verifying the student’s eligibility to teach in the State of Florida.

Florida teacher certification examinations

The Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE) is a test required by the State of Florida in order to be certified to teach in Florida. It consists of three examinations:

  • Professional educator exam
  • Subject area exam
  • General knowledge exam
